Ngalakrovol

Ngalakrovol (The Abyssal Sanctuary) is a dwarf fortress founded by Riril Anan for  Adilatír on Hematite 23, 755 and abandoned for unknown reason by the dwarven civilization on Hematite 9, 769. The abandoned dwarves formed Âbiriden. In 763, one of the survivors of Okgush Irka, the goblin ♂ Dostngosp Snogkutsmob was recorded to die here.

The fortress was visited 4 months later, on Timber 18 by AotM goblin ♀ Fidale Rabeavathe, who lost 2 companions to traps and she herself was lost in the pits opened up by the inhabitants. On Opal 24 the same year, AotM human ♂ Irthu Ushavtet took an iron weapon and Ragnar Uzinugrad took the adamantine axe Ginetkol. Irthu's Three presence triggered a fight between the remaining dwarves, Fidale's human companions and the demons of the depths unleashed upon the world.

On Moonstone 26, 859 the arrival of the AotM dwarf vampire necromancer ♂ Moldath Leshaltölún triggered the Death Cures of the adventurers of the Museum upon Fidale's surviving human companions, but he decided to bring some of them back as undead, who continue to guard the place up to the 10th century in Orid Xem. This is so far the last record of anyone outside its walls visiting the crypt.

Some say the fortress is an homage to the lost Gor and Tathbom.

Quotes[]

  • "In the west, there was a Fortress, founded by a secretive and poorly understood cult. It grew wealthy from trade, and enjoyed many long years of prosperity, before contact was abruptly lost. No Caravans or expeditions now return. People speak of curses, of dabbling with things which no Dwarf should dabble with, and yet... the Fortress undoubtedly holds fabulous wealth and some of the greatest works of Craftdwarfship that can be found in these twilight days, hidden away in its many tunnels and halls... Is it worth the risk?"[1]
  • "He lay there in silence. He was thirsty. So, so very thirsty. He didn't know how long had passed, sitting here in his hospital bed, nor how long it had been since his food and water had run out. He was scared. Everyone was gone. He had not left his Hospital bed in years, but he would not spend a moment longer in this crushing darkness, thirsty and hungry and dying slowly. If he could not walk, he would crawl. One arm out at a time. One pull at a time. One grab at a time. When he found water, it was like he had found heaven. When he reached the kitchens, between the rotten meat and fish, he found hard bread and dried food, and it was like no feast he could ever have dreamed of. Slowly, slowly, he made his way towards the surface. There was wind. He had not felt wind for so, so long. On the verge of tears, he pulled himself further, to see sunlight, shining down onto the bare rocky mountainside. As he lay there, cold, exhausted, and utterly, utterly alone, staring into the endless, blinding sky, free at last from a slow death in his Hospital bed, paralyzed by fear in the absolute darkness, for the first time in so, so long, he felt at peace."[1]
